Driving Songtext

after driving many hours

reflective dots on the road looked like candies

stuck in rows to wax paper

and i ate a few to find

they'd been dipped in somebody's acid

and i couldn't uncross the things my mind said it saw with my eyes

and i couldn't say a word though i feared for our lives

what a cruel trick to play, what a cruel thing to do to a stranger

once the sun came up

and i saw what was what

the heavy horizon lay before me it flattened out my eyes

no pitch black cut by spotlight to show me blurry lines

in sunlight i marvelled

i could have taken both our lives

what a cruel trick to play, what a cruel thing to do to a stranger

what a cruel trick to play, what a cruel thing to do to a traveller
